Why it's worth doing
Lateral raises exist because no pressing movement builds out the whole shoulder on its own. Flat bench and incline press load the front delt as a secondary mover, but they barely touch the side delt, the middle head, the one that gives the shoulder its width when you look at someone from the front. Without an isolation exercise for that area, someone can train pressing for months and still end up with shoulders that look narrow even though chest and triceps are well developed.
It's also one of the few exercises where isolating a muscle actually makes sense.
